Prosiect VAL Project

Gwaith Saer ac Adeiladu | Joinery and Construction

The Joinery and Construction courses are run by Robert Hill, a highly experienced teacher and multi-skilled Construction/Woodworker. Rob has over 27 years experience working in the construction industry and has taught wood trades for 10 years at both West Cheshire College, Chester and Yale College, Wrexham, with a 99% success rate with his students. Rob is not only a qualified Bench/Site Joiner but is also a qualified Cabinetmaker and Wood Machinist allowing him to pass on a variety of skills to the young people on the VAL course.

The VAL course runs for 2 academic years and during this time Rob develops strong relationships with the young people and gives them the opportunity to learn basic joinery skills such as measuring, marking, cutting, identifying and using hand tools and power tools. Along with this they develop confidence, social skills and understand the importance of health and safety. At each stage of progress the work is recorded and photographs taken and entered into a portfolio of evidence, this portfolio is used during interview stages at either a college or with a potential employer.

The VAL course is a great opportunity for young people to get hands on experience working with a time served joiner in a practical site environment.
